| Q. Why hot yoga?
A. The room is heated by design to properly warm up muscles, which allows you to build and maintain a proper flow to your movements and help protect your body from injury. In addition, the healing effect of Hot Yoga happens when movement and heat come together. Heat helps you sweat, and sweat is an important part of the natural healing since it enables the body to release toxins and excess fluids. Your skin is the largest elimination organ in the body so the more you sweat, the more toxins you release, the better you feel. Plus it will help you lose weight!
Q. Who is it for?
A. Hot Yoga is not just for the very flexible. In fact if you are not flexible, if you cannot touch your toes or perhaps even see your toes, you are a great candidate! There are benefits for everyone. No matter what physical shape you are in or what limitations you believe that you have, this form of exercise will help.
Q. How many calories does one Hot Yoga class burn?
A. Health professionals have estimated between 400-1200 calories are burned per class.
Q. Can I practice if I have a health condition?
A. Many health conditions improve through regular Hot Yoga practices. In fact, some doctors now prescribe Hot Yoga as a form of physical therapy. Hot Yoga heals and strengthens the body from the inside out, and is especially beneficial to the immune system. Always check with your doctor before embarking on this or any other exercise program.
Q. What if I'm not very flexible, can I still do Hot Yoga?
A. Most people are not very flexible, and they become more inflexible over time. Muscles and joints stiffen from under use, which often occurs as we age. Many jobs require long hours of sitting or bending. This can compress and disfigure the spine while causing muscles to conform to this incorrect alignment. Hot Yoga helps to alleviate stiffness and creates flexibility, keeping the spine supple and in correct alignment. If you are not flexible, that's more reason to begin yoga practice.
Q. How long will it take before I see results?
A. It does not take long to see the results of Hot Yoga. Depending on the frequency of classes, results occur in as little as two weeks.
Q. What should I expect from my first class?
A. Usually the first couple of classes are the most challenging because toxins in the body are rapidly released and your body hasn't acclimated to the heat. You will soon discover that the heat is a powerful tool to help open and detoxify the body unlike anything else. Come with no expectations, just a light heart, open mind, and a well hydrated body. Most students feel amazingly detoxified and relaxed after their first class.
Q. What should I bring?
A. A mat, towel and water are necessary. Water may be purchased. Mat and towel rentals are available.
Q. What should I wear?
A. Women should wear something light, comfortable and fitted. (i.e. shorts, yoga pants, sports bras and fitted tank tops)Men should wear loose fitting gym shorts and a light tank top.
